In a post on his Facebook page, Senator Athan Achonu expressed appreciation to God for divine protection throughout the “successful campaign period”
In his words,
Colossians 4:2 “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful” aptly captures my mood today in a Special Thanksgiving service and prayer requests session at the Holy Trinity Parish, Maitama Abuja.
It was a solemn gathering of family, friends, party leaders, political associates and Christian brethren to express our gratitude to God for his amazing grace over my life, and his many divine intervention for various reasons during the course of our successful November 11 election campaign.
Recall that despite unwarranted dastardly acts of violence, bloodshed, injuries, kidnaps, and assassinations during the campaigns, our resolve for a free and liberated Imo remains unshaken.
Hence, today’s thanksgiving offered us the opportunity to reflect on the miraculous protection granted to me from the assassinations attempt on my life by men of the Tiger Base Squad, who fired at my vehicle while enroute to honour a church invitation during the cause of the campaign.
We also sought God’s mercy upon my cousin, Mr John Chima Nwokorie who also served as the Ehime Mbano Local Government collation officer of our party who was abducted and is yet to be released. We prayed that the hearts of his abductors be touched to either unconditionally release him or, if they have taken his life, release his remains so that his family, friends and loved ones can find closure to this tragic event.
We also prayed for the repose of the soul of a party leader in Ahiazu Mbaise, Chief Goodnews Onyemzoroegbulem (Ogbolowood) who was gruesomely murdered.
We equally acknowledged and appreciated the dedication of the team of brilliant lawyers who worked tirelessly to establish an excellent case before the election petition tribunal. We then prayed for God’s intervention to ensure that justice prevails during the judicial process.
Ultimately, we prayed for peace, progress and prosperity in our land- our dearly beloved Imo State.
