All is now set for the formal flag-off of the campaign of the governorship candidate of the Labour Party, Distinguished Senator Athan Achonu, and his deputy, Hon. Tony Nwulu.
The epoch-making event, which is slated for next week, Tuesday, August 22, would be graced, by the national leader and presidential candidate of the Labour Party, His Excellency, Peter Obi, Gov Alex Otti of Abia State, National Chairman of the Labour Party, Barr. Julius Abure, and other political juggernauts.
Achonu disclosed this in Owerri, during the inauguration of his campaign coordinating team in the 27 local government areas of the state, at his campaign office, Owerri.
The leader of the Take Back Imo Campaign Organisation said all the party leaders had given their consent to the date, signalling their interest to be physically present for the big event.
Achonu further stated that HE Peter Obi, Gov. Otti and other visiting leaders of the party, would not only be accorded a heroic welcome, but also gifted a campaign flag-off experience they would remember for a very long time.
The Aku Ruo Ulo advocate, who has been in the forefront of the push for the Diaspora Igbo to come home and invest, called on his campaign team and other leaders of the party to embark on extensive mobilisation ahead of the event, to ensure a massive turnout of the party faithful, Obidents and Imo electorate for the grand occasion as well that will usher in a new dawn if freedom and renewal for the state.
The governorship hopeful disclosed that the party had made all necessary arrangements to run intensive round the clock grassroots and issues-based campaigns, and challenged his opponents to toe the same path and eschew do-or-die mentality.
He boasted that the party’s campaign manifesto remained the best at this time of unprecedented economic gloom, and attendant multidimensional poverty ,in the land.
Achonu declared that the litany of negative socio-economic indices of the state and nation could only be reversed by shifting from consumption to production.
Furthermore, he said in the forefront of the campaign for shifting of economic priority from oil economy to industrialisation and agriculture, as well as the think home advocacy for the South East, as keys to reflating their dwindling economic fortunes, even before the presidential candidate of the party and visioner of the ideology fully unfolded its economic and developmental potency.
