Senator Athan Achonu, the Labour Party Candidate in the November 2023 election participated in the 2023 edition of Owerri Business Week Conference holding at Swiss Beland Hotel, Owerri on Saturday where he expressed his support for the development of small businesses in Imo State. Owerri Business Week is supported by Numo Farms Limited & Aku Ruo Ulo.
Achonu, the founder of Numo Farms Limited, and co- sponsor of this year’s Owerri Business Week used the opportunity to commend the efforts of the organisers in helping to grow the small business community in the state. He acknowledged the role of businesses in the growth of the society, hence concerted efforts should be in place to build lasting businesses.
In his words, “the idea of Owerri Business Week syncs with the vision of Aku Ruo Ulo which is all about Investment in the South East, business development and the much needed employment creation. That is the reason Numo Farms and Aku Ruo Ulo are supporting it.”
Continuing, he said, “business is all about being strategic, smart and transparent. It is about solving the problem of the society with ideas that alter the Challenges confronting the people. This can be achieved by understanding the problem, creating a solution, focusing on them, building collaborations and delivering expected results.”
He then used the opportunity to share with young business leaders how he started business at an early age of 19 years with the distribution of Counterfeit detecting machines to banks and organisations in the early 80s. The objective was to solve the problem of counterfeits circulating in the late 70s and early 90s. Up
Speaking with media crew after the event, Achonu said if elected he will “work towards enhancing the ease of doing business to ensure that Imo becomes a haven for business and investors in alignment with my Aku ru ulo initiative.
“I will ensure that we work towards taking full advantage of the exceptional skills and knowledge base of our people wherever they may be in the service of their homeland. I am committed to this and I will continue to support business ideas like the Owerri Business Conference.
He also said that “such projects in our Plan for Imo State include – a creativity portal that aggregates all the creative businesses (Creative Arts, entertainment, music, etc); Youth Creativity Hubs and Technology Parks in the 3 Senatorial Zones.”
