TACKLING INSECURITY, BAD ROADS MY PRIORITY, SAYS ACHONU…

……predicts victory for Labour Party

Labour Party’s (LP) candidate in the November 11 governorship election in Imo State, Dist. Sen Athan Achonu, has identified insecurity and bad roads as key problems on his priority list.

Optimistic of victory, Achonu said the last general election in the state was a clear pointer to what is expected in the governorship poll, maintaining that LP won Imo convincingly.

Achonu made this known when he hosted Imo indigenes in Abuja, as part of ongoing consultations ahead of the polls. He said though Governor Hope Uzodimma is the incumbent, he would be defeated, noting that the problem of insecurity must be fixed to restore peace in the state.

He said: “It is not strange to see incumbent governors defeated in an election. Remember, Uzodimma came from the People Democratic Party (PDP) to snatch the ticket from an incumbent, who wanted to put in his in-law. So, Imo is peculiar. Look at Owerri Municipal Council, for example, the candidate of LP went to collect his result from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and he was arrested and taken to where they keep political prisoners.”

“Again, there were 12,000 accredited voters for that election, but the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate had 79,000. So, you can see that Imo is LP. I did not have any challenge in taking part in that election.”

The people who are referred to as brutal, politically, are so tagged because of deaths in the state. We have over a thousand unclaimed bodies in the mortuary.

Look at the latest one in Ukwa. They burnt houses and killed people.

I agree that there is a lot of brutality going on in the state. That is why I am running for governor to ensure it doesn’t continue. I want to ensure security in the state, because this is where I live and earn a living.
