It is with great shock that I received the sad news of the fatal road accident involving a heavy duty truck that occurred along Okigwe Road by Imo State University (IMSU) Junction leading to the death of some individuals including a lecturer at the University.
On behalf of my family, I express sincere condolences to the immediate families of those who lost their loved ones in the tragic incident. I am deeply pained knowing that the magnitude of this tragedy will no doubt affect many families whose lives depend on the departed.
I also wish speedy recovery to those with various degrees of injury recieving treatment at the hospital, and I pray the good Lord to heal them according to his riches in glory.
In the Spirit of Pentecost Sunday which we celebrate today, I pray that the Holy Spirit will heal the hearts of these families and indeed all well meaning Imolites and comfort them in the fire of His love!
Indeed, this is a loss to many.
While we mourn our brothers and sisters who perished in this accident, this incident offers yet another opportunity to call on appropriate road safety departments, agencies and indeed leaders in government to awaken to the crucial duty of ensuring our roads are safe. From the road worthiness of vehicles, state of road infrastructure, to the mental health of drivers and indeed every road user, efforts must be re-doubled to bring sanctity and sanity to our roads.
