Senator Achonu Welcomes Release of Hon. Ngozi Ogbu, Urges Communities to Expose Criminals

Senator Athan Nneji Achonu, 2023 Labour Party Governorship Candidate in Imo State, has expressed joy at the safe release of Hon. Ngozi Ogbu, former legislator for Okigwe State Constituency, who was abducted while preparing for his late mother’s burial.

“I thank God Almighty for the safe return of Hon. Ngozi Ogbu. This is a moment of relief for his family and community at such a painful time,” Senator Achonu said.

He commended the Imo State Police Command, other security agencies, community leaders, and family members, whose swift action, unity, and sustained pressure contributed to the release. “Their collective effort is proof that when we work together, we can achieve results,” he noted.

Senator Achonu further urged that communities and security agencies build on this success by deepening collaboration, sharing intelligence, and sustaining vigilance, so that future kidnappings can be prevented rather than merely resolved.

He however, stressed that kidnapping must not be allowed to persist:

“Enough is enough. Communities must rally round, identify, and expose the criminals living among us. No one should shield kidnappers or bandits destroying our society. If we stand united, this menace will be defeated.”

He concluded with a reminder of Igbo values:
“Onye aghala nwanne ya — let no one abandon his brother. Our survival as a people depends on standing together against evil. Let us reclaim our dignity and restore peace to our land.
